He does not want her to stop trying in her acting career just because of him. Her true love in real life makes her realize the fake emotions she expresses on stage.
James Vane
James Vane is the brother of Sibyl Vane, Dorian’s lover. Before leaving for Australia, James wanted his mother to promise that she would protect his sister no matter what. James finds out about Dorian while talking to his mother about his sister. From the beginning, James never had a good feeling about Dorian Gray. Oblivious to the fact that Dorian caused the death of his sister Sibyl at first, James goes on mourning for her death. Later in the novel, James Vane and Dorian Gray meet again; this time James is angry and remembers the name that Dorian is being called. Even though James is tricked once more at the Opium Dens by Dorian Gray, he makes no hesitation to follow Dorian in order to kill him involuntarily causing his own death.
